Tēnā koutou

Radio test this Saturday 9:30am 28 October 2023.

I won't be in town for a December test but as always you are welcome to run one yourselves -Saturday December 30th.

Sorry for the late reminder - no real excuse (thanks Eddie for the reminder)

End of year catchup

I'm going to be at the Pavilion at Days Bay from 10am Sunday 3 December (that's Sunday week) - please drop by if you feel like it and I'll buy you a coffee (or something), if not, then I'll also organise something early next year before the expo (below).

Thank you everyone for your continued support, obviously it's one of those community things that most are unaware of, and in an ideal world will never be needed - but here we are. Tēnā koutou

Emergency call-outs

I always see on Facebook local people (those of us in hearing distance of the fire siren) asking what the incident was when the siren goes off. I have discovered this information is available on the FENZ web site but locating Eastbourne callouts is tricky, so I've now got the local call-outs on the web site Eastbourne.nz FYI. Hopefully we won't see too many, but there were 3 fires last week - and the forecast is for stronger and drier winds.

The Resilience Games/Expo - Making fun of disaster - March 2024

The date for this has now been set at 24 March 2024. It won't be a full-on Eastbourne Games style event (this was deemed too big a job), it will be more of an expo with the chance to try out a variety of exercises, learn a lot, get to know your local civil defence people, and possible win some prizes for your bay.

I will keep you informed, possibly with some extra emails if needed.

New radio operator

We are looking for another radio operator for southern Eastbourne ("Tennis") if you know anyone. We are also still looking for an operator in York Bay (I have a possible candidate, but ideally each radio should have 2 people with access and comfortable with operating the set).

FYI - I also manage the website http://eastbourne.nz/ and the electronic notice board in the library - if you have information you'd like to see on either of these please let me know. I have got pages for each bay which have no content - the obvious addition would be information about the bay's emergency resources, plan and contacts etc. so please send anything through.

Note: There are a few Eastbourne email newsletters you can subscribe to here, including one for civil defence notifications.

Ngā mihi

Bruce
