DESCRIPTION:The Eastbourne Wharf-to-Wharf swim will be next held on Sunday 1st March 2026. \n\n\n\n\n\nWellington Water Quality Update:\nWe’re continuing to keep a close eye on water quality following recent events at the Moa Point Wastewater Treatment Plant and how this might affect the event. Water quality at Days Bay is tested weekly and daily predictions after that are based on weather and tide modelling. At the moment the inner harbour beaches all have safe water to swim in. You can check the water quality via LAWA website hosted by Greater Wellington Regional Council.  We will provide another update in the week leading up to the event if there are any concerns about if it is safe to swim.If you are keen to swim but unsure you’re welcome to register and pay on the day if you decide to swim\n\n\n\n\nThe Wharf-to-Wharf swim has become an Eastbourne institution that has been running for over 70 years. This fun\, non-competitive friendly swim event is run by the Muritai Yacht Club and volunteers for the benefit of the Eastbourne community.  The course begins on Days Bay beach and finishes next to the Rona Bay wharf in Eastbourne. Every person is a winner and at a distance of approximately 1.25km it is an event that all age groups can enjoy together. \nEntry is open to any swimmer who is confident in deep water but we do require that swimmers under the age of 12 years have parental consent and we recommend that an adult swims with a child who is in this age group. You can also practice a tsunami hīkoi (evacuation walk) if you’re in a coastal area. \n \n\n\n\n\n\nEvery individual or household that registers goes into the draw to win a personal grab bag. \nBags will be delivered and stocked with items to keep you safe during an emergency. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEvery organisation\, school\, university\, marae\, or community group that registers goes into the draw to win a Civil Defence wheelie bin. \nBins will be delivered and stocked with a range of helpful items to help keep people safe during an emergency. \n\n\nWe’re looking for any positive stories and photos you have to share from any of your previous ShakeOuts. \nYou may have run your ShakeOut a little differently to others\, or you may have discovered something eye-opening during a previous drill or hīkoi that you still use today. DESCRIPTION:Due to horrific weather in November we are planning to run our event on March 12 2023 \, hoping we have a clear day.It is a requirement for us to advise our intentions for a one day event located at Port Road Seaview Lower Hutt this coming March .We are working hard with the HCC and is our intentions to bring as little disruptions to the area during this time.With huge interest in this event we endeavour to bring a first class event to the Wellington Region.Sunday 12 March  2023 7am to 6pm.Noise complaints\, reports of dangerous driving or any other illegal activities outside our road closure hours and cordon (during the event)  should be reported to the HCC Noise control or/and the Police.We are aware of recent and regular activity in the area\, this has nothing to do with our event.Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions or queries.
