SUMMARY:Professional Deer Culling Northern Forest East Harbour Regional Park: 5 May - 13 June
DESCRIPTION:Greater Wellington Regional Council contracted\, professional deer cullers will be hunting in East Harbour Regional Park\, Northern Forest between 5th May & 13th June. Hunters will be only hunting when weather conditions are conducive to hunting. There will be 16 days of actual hunting in the period. No hunting will be undertaken on weekends\, public holidays or school holidays. Hunting will on occasion be occurring at night. The EHRP website will be updated daily as the hunter communicates his plans to Jo or Zane at GWRC. Please feel free to text Jo on 0274673076 if you are unsure.  \nPlease report deer\, pig or goat sightings – include date of sighting\, species\, number\, specific location\, activity and photos are always useful – contact Jo Greenman at 0274673076\, (text is good) or jo.greenman@gw.govt.nz  \nThere is also an opportunity to undertake culling on private property. Written permission is required for the hunter to cross onto private land. The contract allows private hunting under the GWRC contract on a cost recovery basis. Cost will be $80 per hour of hunting time with a minimum of 3 hours. There is no guarantee of shooting an animal. Contact Jo Greenman – to discuss culling on private land.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a day of planting at these nationally significant lakes. \nThe Parangarahu Lakes are important to the surrounding environment and are home to native taonga. This includes a range of wetland plants\, īnanga (galaxias maculatus)\, manu (birds)\, and our native freshwater mussel\, the kākahi. \nThis planting day is perfect for those who enjoy a bit of physical activity\, as you’ll be carrying plants and digging holes. \n What to bring/wear:\n• Sturdy boots or gumboots\n• Long sleeves and pants\, and a waterproof jacket are essential. Layering and wearing a hat or beanie is a good way to stay warm. This site can be very exposed\, so it is a good idea to bring a spare change of clothes.\n• Feel free to bring your own favourite spade and gloves.\n• Bring your own water bottle\, and snacks. \n We provide:\n• FREE transport from Burdan’s Gate\, Eastbourne\, along the rugged coast to the Lower Pencarrow Lighthouse at the harbour entrance and onto the entrance of the first lake. Please book your seat as we have limited numbers. DESCRIPTION:COMMUNITY CLIMATE ACTION FUND (formerly the Community Engagement Fund)\nCriteria\nThe fund aims to contribute to the city’s carbon reduction goals by funding:\ni. Community-led carbon reduction initiatives\, with a focus on initiatives already identified in the Lower Hutt Climate Pathway\nii. Community engagement initiatives that can demonstrate a contribution to carbon reduction in the way they are delivered (eg waste minimisation). \nTo be eligible for funding:\n• Initiatives/activities must take place within Lower Hutt.\n• Physical assets must not be stored on Council reserve land or road reserve.\n• Any asset purchased over the value of $1\,000 must be added to the organisation’s asset register.\n• Organisations/groups requesting funding must meet specified criteria\, including legal entity status for applications above $10k and the project must align with Council’s Climate Action Pathway.\nThis is a one-off grant\, and any future maintenance of physical assets purchased are the responsibility of the applicant organisations. \nEastbourne Community Board has $2\,171 for further allocation in this round as of May 2025. \nmore information (on this website) \nApplication form\, more information\, and assistance in applying (is available) (Hutt City website)
