SUMMARY:ANZAC Day 2022
DESCRIPTION:Anzac Day 2022\nThe Eastbourne Memorial RSA reluctantly noted in last month’s Eastbourne Herald that it has had to cancel this year’s Street March and Citizens Commemorative Service.\nEarlier in March the RNZRSA informed all RSAs that no NZDF resources would be available for Anzac Day 2022. Also the Hutt City Council advised it was likely that there would not be a public service on Anzac Day\, instead it would be replaced by a private service in the St James Church for approximately 75 guests and that this service would be ‘live streamed’ to the public\, – and they would advise that there would be no dawn parade or service to attend.\nConsequently the EMRSA withdrew all it’s applications for road closures and the street parade\, and cancelled the other facilities and personnel required for our ‘normal’ Anzac Day Service.\nEven though things have changed we have not been able to reinstate all the elements required for our usual Community Service.\nThe Eastbourne Memorial RSA will ensure that the Memorial Gates and the Field of Remembrance will be well presented – the New Zealand Flag will be flown and a Floral Tribute laid – and Poppies will adorn the Field of Remembrance.\nMembers of the Eastbourne community are encouraged to visit these special places during the day and are welcome to lay a tribute. If visiting these or other local Memorials please observe all Covid safety requirements.\nThe EMRSA will miss not being able to share this very special day with the Eastbourne Community – but hopes that you will find time to remember and commemorate the service and sacrifice of veterans and their families – especially those that made the ‘ultimate sacrifice’ – WE WILL REMEMBER THEM. \nColin Hemingway-Rushton\, President\, EMRSA\, 12th April 2022 \nYou may wish to attend one of the following events \n\nPukeahu National Memorial 6am Dawn Service 11am Commemorative Service (both these services will be broadcast on TVNZ One & RNZ National).\nAtaturk Memorial Tarakena Bay 2.30 Wreath Laying\nHCC Cenotaph 6am Dawn Service

SUMMARY:HCC - Bus Stop Review Procedures (Traffic Subcommittee)
DESCRIPTION:Bus Stops – Have your say … Bus stop review for the bays is planned for 2023. The Hutt City Traffic subcommittee is meeting 2pm\, 21 April including approval for review procedures. The bus stop guidelines are “one size fits all” and quite contrary to some Eastbourne characteristics – if you have an interest in this you can have your say \, in person (it’s on Zoom as well) or in writing. Agenda is available for download.\nhttp://infocouncil.huttcity.govt.nz/Open/2022/04/TSC_21042022_AGN_3030_AT.PDF

SUMMARY:HCC - Government changes to allow higher and denser housing (survey closes 5pm Friday 29 April)
DESCRIPTION:The Government passed a law in late 2021 to allow housing up to three storeys high in most residential areas\, without requiring council planning permission (resource consent). Council is also required to allow housing of at least six storeys within walking distance of our train stations\, the CBD and the Petone commercial area. More housing (also known as intensification) will also be allowed in residential areas such as the suburban centres of Avalon\, Eastbourne\, Moera\, Stokes Valley and Wainuiomata. \nCouncil is only able to limit these requirements in specific circumstances such as identified natural hazard and heritage areas. \nThis law means a change to council’s work on the District Plan review that was already underway. The District Plan is the main document that sets the rules for managing land use and development within our city. \nCouncil has voted to focus on making the necessary changes to the District Plan to include these requirements. This will enable Hutt City Council to make the intensification changes that are required by the government deadline of 20 August. \nCouncil has prepared a detailed outline(External link) of what these changes will mean for Lower Hutt\, with maps showing the areas where the changes may occur. We are now seeking feedback from the community and other interested parties on these changes. \nHave your say

SUMMARY:HCC - Three Waters Reform (survey closes 5pm Wednesday 13 April 2022
DESCRIPTION:As you might be aware\, the Government is proposing to reform how three waters services are managed and delivered across Aotearoa New Zealand. Currently\, these services – drinking water\, waste water\, and storm water – are delivered by 67 councils\, and the Government is proposing to consolidate these services under 4 publicly-owned entities instead. \nWe all need reliable access to safe drinking water\, and we also have a responsibility to look after our environment. These reforms have been proposed following the death of four people in Havelock North in 2016\, where 35 people were also hospitalised and many more fell ill after consuming contaminated water. Analysis by the government suggests that some parts of the country have seen decades of underinvestment in three waters infrastructure\, and the bill to fix and maintain these networks is now too large for many councils to afford. \nHave your say now

SUMMARY:(Postponed due to Covid-19) Eastbourne Community Board Virtual Walkaround
DESCRIPTION:The Board members and council officers normally travel around the Bays and discuss local issues and ideas with residents. This year with Covid-19 restrictions this may be done online instead. Each Bay’s residents will be given a specific time slot to meet the board online and discuss their particular areas of interest and concern. They will be invited to submit these where possible ahead of time to allow any necessary research to be done by council officers.
