SUMMARY:Baring Head Community Planting Day
DESCRIPTION:Grab your friends and whānau and join us at Baring Head/Ōrua-pouanui for a morning of planting in this rugged corner of the Wellington Region.\n\n\nWe will be planting ngaio\, tī kouka\, harekeke and other native species in the valley alongside the Wainuiomata River. In a few years’ time it’s going to look very different so if you’d like to be part of the team restoring this location\, we’d love your help. \nThis planting day is suitable for people with medium fitness as you will need to carry plants and dig holes\, but the area being planted is a flat walk away from the carpark and easy to get to. This is not suitable for young children and recommended for 13 years and above. There is a toilet in the carpark. No dogs are allowed in this park.  Register using link below \nhttps://www.gw.govt.nz/your-region/events-and-meetings/baring-headorua-pouanui-community-planting-day/

SUMMARY:Matariki Puanga 2023
DESCRIPTION:This year\, Mana Whenua have gifted ‘Matariki Puanga’ as the name for current and future years. This year’s activities and events will take place between 3 – 20 July. \nLike last year\, we will have a one-day community wide celebration as part of this programme. Through feedback\, hui and wānanga between community\, stakeholders\, and council\, we have looked to truly take this celebration into the community. Our approach is to hold this in different parts of the city each year\, with this year’s being held on the 9th of July in Naenae.  In addition\, as part of the programme\, there will be activities at all of our hubs throughout the month of July. \nThis year’s approach and full programme is endorsed by Mana Whenua.

SUMMARY:At the Bay - by Katherine Mansfield
DESCRIPTION:Wellesley College at Days Bay is the perfect setting for the first screening of this production. It is one of the few buildings that survive from 1908\, when Mansfield stayed at her parents’ cottage at nearby Downes Point. Known then as Days Bay House\, a hotel\, the impressive facade of the main building is much the same today. The feature is a new production by local film maker Simon Hoyle (Southlight) and includes actors from Eastbourne’s Butterfly Creek Theatre Group. Directed by Anne Manchester\, it also draws on many contemporary images of the setting for “At the Bay”\, chosen by historian Alison Carew. \nMansfield scholar and musician\, Martin Griffiths (cello)\, together with pianist Sherry Grant\, will perform pieces by Edwin Carr\, Arnold Trowell and one of Mansfield’s favourite composers\, Chopin. \nRedmer Yska\, the author of the acclaimed book about Mansfield’s early childhood\, A Strange Beautiful Excitement\, will talk about his new book about Mansfield’s years in Europe. \nA discussion of the project and a profile of one of the actors\, Sir Ashley Bloomfield\, can be\nfound at: https://www.stuff.co.nz/entertainment/film/131918675/sir-ashley-bloomfield-back-in-front-of-the-camera-with-new-acting-gig \n Sunday 2 July 2023\n 7.00 pm – 8.30 pm\n Auditorium\, Wellesley College\, Days Bay\, Lower Hutt 5013 \n$16.20  Tickets for At The Bay – Wellington – Eventfinda

SUMMARY:Emergency Mobile Alert (EMA) system test
DESCRIPTION:We’re testing the Emergency Mobile Alert (EMA) system on Sunday\, 28 May\, between 6-7pm.\n\n\nThe alert will be broadcast from cell towers across New Zealand to all capable phones. So\, you don’t need to download an app or subscribe to a service to receive it.\n\n\nIn a real-life emergency situation\, an alert may be sent to target areas affected by serious hazards. If you get an alert\, stop\, read the message\, and take it seriously. It will tell you what the emergency is and what to do. It will also tell you which agency sent the message and if needed\, where to go for more information.\n\n\nEmergency Mobile Alerts are not meant to replace other emergency alerts or the need to take action after natural warnings. Don’t wait for an official warning if you feel your life is in danger. Take immediate action.\n\n\nFind out more about Emergency Mobile Alerts https://getready.govt.nz/…/stay…/emergency-mobile-alert
