SUMMARY:Penguin Dog Avoidance Training
DESCRIPTION:While your dog may not attack a Penguin\, just approaching a penguin while it is travelling between the sea and its nest\, or sniffing around the nesting area can result in the penguin abandoning its nest. This training is designed to significantly decrease the likelihood that your dog would approach penguins or go near their nests.\nThe Trainer\nWilly Marsh will be the trainer. Willy has extensive experience conducting Kiwi Dog Avoidance Training throughout New Zealand. He has also conducted Penguin Avoidance Training.\nFeedback From Dog Owners\nFeedback from dog owners who participated in a recent “pilot” held in Eastbourne was very positive. All owners were happy with the training and the way their dog was treated; plus\, they felt they learned something new about their dog. The dog breeds included English Setter\, Huntaway/Cross\, Labradoodle\,Springer Spaniel\, Sproodle\, Cavoodle\, and a ShihTzu/Pomeranian. \nNext Eastbourne Training Days – Saturday 14 th &Sunday 15 th September 2024\nFor further Information and to book your dog’s individual training session email ross@penguinavoidance.org

SUMMARY:Butterfly creek picnic area will be closed 18-20th
DESCRIPTION:Butterfly creek picnic area will be closed 18-20th September – Whilst tree felling at the Kowhai/ Mackenzie track junction is being undertaken park users should wait at the barrier to be guided through the work site.\nHi Eastbourne community board and stake holders\nAfter assessing the Safety and Health of trees at Butterfly creek picnic area in 2023 Greater Wellington Regional council has undertaken an annual inspection to reassess the situation. The good news is that the two trees assessed for removal last year\, that were reassessed and not removed but trimmed are not showing signs of further decline and will remain. A small amount of further work is required to remove dead limbs and a further 3 dead standing trees at risk of falling.\nA single standing tree at the junction between Makenzie and Kowhai street tracks will also be felled to reduce the risk to the public standing at the map board or sitting on the bench.\nButterfly creek picnic area will be closed 18-20th September whilst the work is undertaken\nWhilst tree felling at the Kowhai/Makenzie track junction is being undertaken park users should wait at the barrier to be guided through the work site.\nWe also plan to plant 12 new beach trees to help mitigate the tree removal work\nBackground reminder\nThe beech trees at the Butterfly Creek Picnic area are under stress due to soil compaction caused by high visitor numbers. This has resulted in low soil aeration\, poor soil condition\, and limited water penetration. These factors have contributed to the death and decline of tree roots\, making the trees more susceptible to fungi such as Laetiporus portentosus and general dieback.

SUMMARY:Water Restrictions begin - Level 1
DESCRIPTION:Water Restriction Level 1\nUse sprinklers every second day \nIf you live in an even numbered house\, you can use sprinklers or irrigation systems on even numbered days between 6-8am and 7-9pm. If you live in an odd numbered house\, the same rules apply for odd numbered days. \nThis helps limit water evaporating in the heat of the day\, spreads the load of daily water demand\, and helps manage daily supply levels. \nYou can use handheld watering devices any time\, on any day\, so long as you don’t leave them unattended. \nWater restriction Level 1 applies all year round for Upper Hutt and South Wairarapa. Level 1 automatically comes into effect with Daylight Savings in September for Lower Hutt\, Wellington City and Porirua. \nhttps://www.wellingtonwater.co.nz/resources/topic/water-conservation/water-restrictions/
