DESCRIPTION:NOTICE OF MIRO 2022 AGM\nMIRO members and helpers are invited to attend our Annual General Meeting:7.00 p.m. on Friday\, 29th July 2022Muritai School Hall166 Muritai Road\, Eastbourne \nThis year\, because of the Covid risk\, we are holding the MIRO AGM in the Muritai School Hall so that we can get effective social distancing. And to keep things safe it will be a mask-only event\, except for those presenting (Chair\, Treasurer and guest speaker).This is the time for the Committee to thank MIRO members for their contributions over the past year. It also provides the opportunity to hear about the good work being done by MIRO volunteers and meet other members.The AGM will start promptly at 7.00 p.m. This year\, the formal part of the meeting and our guest speaker’s presentation will not be followed by MIRO’s traditional supper because of the associated Covid risk. If you are a new member\, please also email your contact details to info@miro.org.nz. \nOur Guest Speaker — Dr Carlos Lehneback“Diversity and Conservation of New Zealand Orchids”\nDr Carlos Lehnebach is a Botany Curator at Te Papa. His current research focuses on the description of the New Zealand flora and the conservation of rare and threatened plants. Past projects have included the pollination biology of terrestrial and epiphytic orchids\, and the genetic affinities between NZ alpine buttercups and those from South America.  This talk will present an overview of the of the work Carlos is doing\, in collaboration with other scientist across New Zealand\, to describe our native orchid flora and secure the long term survival of a number of orchid species now on the brink of extinction.
