Radio test reminder, possible repeater issues
Eastern Bays Radio Network updates
Eastern Bays Radio Network

Tēnā koutou

Radio test this Saturday 9:30am 31 August 2024.

I'm afraid I have no further news on the possible issues with the repeater.

I'm just regathering my thoughts after the oral presentations yesterday at HCC on the Representation Review. Overwhelming support from both Eastbourne and the Eastern Bays for retaining our Community Boards (CBs), with only a couple of negative responses (from outside the bays). Unfortunately, despite all the rhetoric about representation, equity/equality and localism it seems the cost of the CB's is a dominant factor with councillors, despite there being no indication of how much it will cost the council to replace the functions and activities currently carried out by the boards. With that focus, and talk of a targeted rate, it seems that democracy is now a commodity, not a right.

I was about to delete the above as being outside the scope of this group - however since my involvement in this and other related activities are tied to my role as a Community Board member (and the access to council the Community Board brings) I think it's probably relevant to leave it in - but please be aware that this is my personal response, not the boards.

Hope you are all managing the current weather and other disruptions ok.

Ngā mihi

FYI - I also manage the website https://eastbourne.nz/ and the electronic notice board in the library - if you have information you'd like to see on either of these please let me know. I have got pages for each bay which have no content - the obvious addition would be information about the bay's emergency resources, plan and contacts etc. so please send anything through.

Note: There are a few Eastbourne email newsletters you can subscribe to here, including one for civil defence notifications.
