Kia ora - Meri Kirihimete
2024 has been a busy and distracting year for the Community Board so the Climate Network has not received the attention it deserves/ needs. Thanks to those core members who kept things going.
Notwithstanding - there has been a lot to consider and we have made some progress. I'm not involved in a lot of the groups who are carrying out important and successful environmental work in our community and outside it - it would be great to promote these groups and highlight your work, so please feel free to send me information to publish both in this newsletter but also the more general community news.
For me the major projects have been the Community Resilience Expo at the start of the year, successful for those that attended, and a good example of why community networks are so important.
The submission to the Environment Committee was also an important action (thanks to John Horrocks), we will see if Eastbourne has any further involvement.
The Tetrapak and battery recycling trials have been (too?) successful, we hope to see HCC picking these up in 2025, but in the mean time we will continue.
Hopefully the Community Board will get a reprieve and continue past the next local body election, otherwise we may have to reinvent it, something to ponder.
Please take some time over the break to consider what we as a community and individuals can do to create a climate responsive and resilient community, and as always, if you have anything you'd like to share (even anonymously) let us know.
- see you 2025
