Tēnā koutou

Just a heads up for the radio test this Saturday 29th 9:30am. The meeting, ECB/radio room will be unavailable this Saturday as they are laying carpet. I will try and operate from another location, however, as always, in an emergency we will have to be creative so please see who you can connect with.

I think James North from WREMO may be running a Hub exercise at Point Howard soon, and we have been discussing running a "Resilience Expo" in the future which will target all residents in the bays.

Below is something I wrote a few weeks ago. Any ideas etc. appreciated.

The Resilience Games / Survival Eastbourne (making fun of disasters?)
The recent and continuing extreme weather events, climate change and the ever present threat of earthquakes make it imperative that we do what we can to Reduce, get Ready, Respond and Recover from emergencies. Wellington Regional Emergency Management (WREMO) are proposing to run some workshops and practices on this.
The ECB would like to combine this with the highly successful Eastbourne Games format by running an event where teams of all ages from each bay or area compete in a variety of tasks related to emergency preparation and response. We would get emergency services involved as well as any other groups that may be called upon to assist in the event of an emergency. It would try to be fun as well as educational, with the outcome of each bay or group having a plan and resources prepared for most contingencies.
There could be prizes of emergency equipment, but the real winners would be all of us, better prepared! What do you think?

Note: There are a few Eastbourne email newsletters you can subscribe to here, including one for civil defence notifications.

The next ECB meeting (August) will not have a community resilience focus as a said previously, this has been postponed again.

Still one CD workstation, office chair and large pin board/divider up for grabs if anyone wants, I can deliver.

FYI - I also manage the website http://eastbourne.nz/ and the electronic notice board in the library - if you have information you'd like to see on either of these please let me know. I have got pages for each bay which have no content - the obvious addition would be information about the bay's emergency resources, plan and contacts etc. so please send anything through.

Ngā mihi

Bruce
