Many in our region are navigating a difficult season. With Wellington’s economy under pressure and burnout widespread, this brief talk from author and clinical psychologist Dr. Kerry Makin-Byrd offers evidence-based strategies for resilience and grit. Drawing on a century of research—illustrated with stories rooted in Eastbourne’s people and places—the talk will translate the science into clear, practical steps.

This year's booksale 11-19 October across two weekends and the week in between too! 9 - 3pm each day.

ShakeOut 2025 is happening at 9:30am on 16 October, and applications are open!

ShakeOut is self-run earthquake and tsunami drill held across the world to remind people of the right action to take during an earthquake.

During an earthquake, Drop, Cover and Hold. You can also practice a tsunami hīkoi (evacuation walk) if you're in a coastal area.

A Peek Inside Pencarrow

November 1 @ 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM NZDT (Koha $10)

Walk or cycle to Pencarrow Lighthouse and visit Aotearoa’s first lighthouse. Usually closed to the public, we are opening the doors for you to explore inside. Ever wondered if you have what it takes to be a lighthouse keeper back in 1800’s? Walk or Cycle out to Pencarrow Lighthouse and climb up to Aotearoa’s first lighthouse! Chat with knowledgeable guides about the history, construction and stories behind this unique Poneke landmark while exploring the interior, usually restricted for public access.

Cost: Suggested koha $10

Health & Safety:
Please note the walk up to Pencarrow lighthouse is steep and can be muddy.

Ensure adequate footwear is worn. The weather can be changeable, bring along snacks, water and a wind jacket.
