Ridesharing and Adaption groups report, plus New Year resolution suggestions.
Eastern Bays Climate Resonse Network
All set for action in 2023

Since the last newsletter two more groups have set up more  for action in 2023. Have a look at their reports and think how we could develop the ideas next year.

Ridesharing.
The ridesharing group carried out a poll on Facebook to gauge interest and got a very positive result, with over 80% saying they would offer or request a ride. They were pleasantly surprised by the number of voters and the absence of negative comments. They even got the chance to try it out. A small step but a great start. Read more below.

Adaption Group
The first goal of this group has been to sort out how any local action will fit with the maze of policy statements and legislation that govern how local bodies such as the Hutt City Council prepare for climate change. We had a good meeting on 9 December with Sean Bellamy, a policy planner at Hutt City Council. He clarified some of these overlapping policy areas and the role of various agencies outside Hutt City. We were able to provide him with a provisional list of issues (see full report) that could be important for Eastbourne and the Eastern Bays. The outcome is that early next year we plan to carry out a survey to find out which of these issues are seen as the most important, so that we can look for more information about them and explore ways in which local action could be effective.

Business Climate Response survey
We have created an Eastbourne Business Climate Response Survey to get a measure of how local businesses may be addressing climate change. No businesses will be mentioned by name, it is intended to publicise and raise awareness of how businesses are and can respond, and how we should support these efforts. If you are involved in a business (or know someone who is) then you can complete the survey here

Resolutions
As promised the resolutions suggested at our November meeting are included below. Have a look, see which you think you and your family could try, or think of something else you could aim to do. Assessment will be self assessment, not an external NCEA exam.

All the best for a safe and happy holiday. We'll gather again, refreshed and ready for action, next February!
