Eastern Bays Climate Resonse Network

Kia ora!

This is an overdue and under-developed news drop partly to test the new web server the eastbourne.nz website is running on - the previous one was becoming very unreliable. There are technical issues to be resolved when this happens, and one is emailing newsletters like this - so thanks for being guinea pigs (I know, you didn't volunteer). Any issues, let me know.

On a different note I've been talking to The Lower Hutt Climate Action Pathway group so may have something to report on there - at present it's a combination of passing on what we have learned, and learning from them. I'm getting up to speed on this - I guess we all should be taking an interest. https://haveyoursay.huttcity.govt.nz/communityclimatechange

NOTICEOn another note I'm somewhat distracted by the Representation Review recommending the dissolution of Community Boards. Not surprisingly the Eastbourne Community Board doesn't think this is a great idea, and in fact we feel that all wards would benefit from having an elected community board. You will receive an email specifically on this very soon (provide this email goes ok). - disclaimer: I'm an Eastbourne Community Board Member and we helped set up this group.

Mean time, there may be something useful below - as always, thanks to the Glean Report!

No progress on disaster information system, despite years of warnings

A life-saving disaster information system that would have been crucial during last year's devastating storms is still nowhere to be seen, despite being fast tracked six years ago. RNZ report

Eastern Bays Climate Response Network on Facebook. Feel free to comment or post on topics related to the goals of this group on the Facebook page.

EBCRN is focussed on the need to act now to both mitigate the causes of accelerating climate change as well as prepare for the impact on our community. You can find out more about Eastbourne and the Network hereIf you have climate related events, resources, requests, suggestions or any other information you would like to share please send it to us.

Note: we create this newsletter "on the fly" as information and events come to our attention. Sometimes short notice of event dates mean the event passes before we send this out, so each email may be triggered but an upcoming event rather than a reasonable interval since the last release. Please feel free to give feedback on content and frequency of news, and send through items you might feel are of interest to the group.

You can forward this to someone if they would like to  join the Eastern Bays Climate Response Network and/or subscribe to the email updates
