We try to keep you informed through our various channels, but in an emergency much of the technology we use may fail.
You may not be aware that we have an Eastern Bays Emergency Radio Network - run by volunteers. We endeavour to have a radio in each bay so in the case of a bay becoming isolated by some event there is a way to communicate with other bays and the Hutt City Emergency Management Centre. We currently need a host/operator for a radio in York Bay if anyone is keen, it's not onerous, and it's not difficult - in fact it's ideal if it's a shared responsibility, so if you want to be involved in your area let us know.
The radio system is very old and about to be replaced by a new system which we may not have access to (outside the community hubs at Point Howard Playcentre, Wellesley College - Days Bay and Muritai School - Eastbourne). We are looking to trial a new alternative which could change the way we respond to emergency communications - with the option for anyone who is interested to take part. More on this soon.
