Eastern Bays Climate Resonse Network

EBCRN is focussed on the need to act now to both mitigate the causes of accelerating climate change as well as prepare for the impact on our community. You can find out more about Eastbourne and the Network hereIf you have climate related events, resources, requests, suggestions or any other information you would like to share please send it to us.

There's a few events coming up so I'm sending this out now. We'll just have to see how the new government approaches the issue(s) of climate change. Please feel free to send through anything worth sharing, or post on the Facebook group.

The maximum intensity of solar cycle 25 will most likely occur in early 2024.

Solar activity has been found to lead to space weather events that can be problematic for our planet. These events can affect the earth's magnetosphere, ionosphere, and upper atmosphere, potentially disrupting radio communications and GPS systems.

They can also induce geomagnetic storms responsible for electric currents in power lines that affect power grids and cause transformer failures. Finally, they have also been shown to influence satellite operations by causing increased atmospheric drag on low-Earth orbit satellites. As such, monitoring and predicting solar activity is crucial for mitigating potential impacts and this latest work provides crucial information to guide activities for the new year.

Not terrestrial climate, but relevant in terms of disruption particularly communications, and we saw what happened in the Cyclone Gabriel event.

Note: we create this newsletter "on the fly" as information and events come to our attention. Sometimes short notice of event dates mean the event passes before we send this out, so each email may be triggered but an upcoming event rather than a reasonable interval since the last release. Please feel free to give feedback on content and frequency of news, and send through items you might feel are of interest to the group.
