Request for indications of interest
Eastbourne FM is a project which incudes and online streaming channel and a future FM broadcast (low power and local) station.
The project came about following the Kaikoura earthquake when it was identified that local information could be difficult to share with the community, especially if power, mobile networks and internet access breaks down (as happened recently with Cyclone Gabrielle) and we are dependent on national radio stations for information.
It was quickly identified that:
- Once you have a station it makes sense to have it operating all the time, not just when there's an emergency.
- Many people don't normally listen to broadcast radio, so streaming it on the internet (while it's working) also makes sense, with broadcast as a fall back option.
- Everyone is busy, so having a station that runs itself most of the time is preferred.
There are numerous other considerations and features - but the main point of this post is to let you know that a streaming channel is running here, and I'm keen to find people or groups who would be interested in getting involved in any way, with content or programming
This could be by contributing audio content or programming:
- Local music and audio performances
- Information, interviews, events, talks ...
- Programme creation
With a relatively cheap Radio Licence (~$300 p.a.) we could also broadcast commercial music.
Clubs, music groups, individuals or school groups -I'm keen to discuss opportunities and ideas with anyone who is interested.
