HSE talk – Rudi Mack “First Contacts : the early Pacific and European accounts of Abel Tasman’s 1642 Voyage”
October 13 @ 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM NZDT
The Society’s next event for members is another author talking about another aspect of our history, and promises to be just as interesting and challenging. On Sunday 13 October at 2 pm at the East Harbour Women’s Club Rooms in Muritai Road, local resident and bibliophile Rudi Mack will introduce us to his new book “First Contacts – the early Pacific and European accounts of Abel Tasman’s 1642 Voyage”. Rudi takes a new approach, offering a different perspective than previous histories about the voyage. By cross-referencing textual and visual sources with each other, new interpretations of certain events during the voyage emerge. The results are often surprising, particularly regarding the first encounters between Europeans and Indigenous Peoples in Tasmania, Aotearoa, and Tonga. Afternoon tea to follow. Free to members, visitors welcome and koha appreciated.
More about this in early October.
