Come experience stunning views of Wellington Harbour and the Cook Straight. Learn why the area is significant to iwi and learn about the unique history of Pencarrow Lighthouse from Heritage New Zealand.
There’s two walks to choose from depending on your level of fitness; one up to look inside the lighthouse or a flatter lakeside stroll by the Kohangapiripiri Lake. Make sure you bring your lunch, snacks and water, suitable walking shoes, sun protection, layers and a light raincoat. Please note, this is an exposed site and there is no shelter.
There are limited spaces on two buses that will transport you to and from the lake entrance – 14 km return. You can also come by bike and join us at the lake or lighthouse. Either bring your own bike or hire one for the day from Wildfinder near the entrance (electric bike option available).
Bookings for transport on the bus are essential, as private vehicles aren’t allowed in this part of the park. Tickets on sale from 20 January
