Māori Land Rates Remissions Policy review (HCC)

May 10, 2022 - May 30, 2022

HCC are reviewing the Māori Land Rates Remissions Policy following the 2021 Local Government (Rating of Whenua Māori) Amendment Act.

They propose broadening the scope of the policy, which furthers Council’s commitment to supporting whānau and regional development through whenua (land). This includes considering applications for remission of rates on general land collectively owned by Māori in the circumstances set out in the policy.

This aligns with Greater Wellington Regional Council’s policy, a decision we made following consultation with Mana Whenua and kaitiaki of Māori freehold land and to ensure regional consistency.

While this policy particularly affects Māori freehold land owners in Te Awa Kairangi ki Tai Lower Hutt, everyone may have an interest, and is welcome to provide a submission on the proposed changes to the policy.

View changes that must be made under the new legislation with  the old and new policies https://www.huttcity.govt.nz/council/consultations#remissionspolicy

If you have any feedback, you can submit it at haveyoursay@huttcity.govt.nz by 5pm Monday 30 May 2022.
