Matariki Puanga 2023

This year, Mana Whenua have gifted ‘Matariki Puanga’ as the name for current and future years. This year’s activities and events will take place between 3 - 20 July. Like last year, we will have a one-day community wide celebration as part of this programme. Through feedback, hui and wānanga between community, stakeholders, and council, we have looked to truly take this celebration into the community. Our approach is to hold this in different parts of the city each year, with this year’s being held on the 9th of July in Naenae.  In addition, as part of the programme, there will be activities at all of our hubs

Baring Head Community Planting Day

Grab your friends and whānau and join us at Baring Head/Ōrua-pouanui for a morning of planting in this rugged corner of the Wellington Region. We will be planting ngaio, tī kouka, harekeke and other native species in the valley alongside the Wainuiomata River. In a few years’ time it’s going to look very different so if you’d like to be part of the team restoring this location, we’d love your help. This planting day is suitable for people with medium fitness as you will need to carry plants and dig holes, but the area being planted is a flat walk away from the carpark and
