NOTICE OF MIRO 2024 AGM

August 6 @ 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM NZST

MIRO

MIRO members and helpers are invited to attend our Annual General Meeting:
6.00 p.m. on Tuesday, 6th August 2024
East Harbour Women’s Club Rooms
145 Muritai Road, Eastbourne (opposite Rimu Street)

This is the time for the Committee to thank MIRO members for their contributions over the past year. It also provides the opportunity to hear about the good work being done by MIRO volunteers and meet other members.

The AGM will start promptly at 6.00 p.m. This year the formal part of the meeting includes the proposal to adopt a new Constitution for MIRO as is required under the Incorporated Societies Act 2022. A proposed new Constitution and a background paper are attached to this message. We encourage all members to come along to vote on this proposal. After that will be our guest speaker’s presentation, which will be followed by MIRO’s traditional supper of fish & chips, pizza, tea and coffee.

For those of you who wish to join MIRO or continue your formal membership (required to vote at the AGM), the membership renewal details are: Individual $10, Family $15 (2 or more people at the same address). Please make payments to the MIRO Account No: 38-9015-0249942-00, with your name in the Reference field. If you are a new member, please also email your contact details to info@miro.org.nz.

Our Guest Speaker — Lindsay Wilson, Hollyford Conservation Trust

“Conservation successes and challenges in New Zealand and the Pacific”

Lindsay will talk about some of the highs and lows of a lifetime protecting and restoring indigenous biodiversity, with a focus on programmes he has managed in Te Urewera, Campbell Island and Fiordland.

Lindsay was employed as a biodiversity manager for the Department of Conservation for more than 25 years. Career highlights included responsibility for species and ecosystem recovery within Fiordland National Park and Te Urewera, island pest eradications including assisting with rat eradication on Campbell Island, landscape-scale predator control and assisting our Pacific neighbours with conservation advice and support. Growing conservation by forging partnerships with community and business has been a particular passion.

Lindsay is currently the Manager of the Hollyford Conservation Trust – a community project restoring 12,000 ha of diverse forest, wetlands and dune systems at Martins Bay in the Hollyford Valley, Fiordland.

Intending to come along? It is important for catering that we have a good idea of how many people will be attending the AGM. Also, let us know if you have any special dietary needs.

Please RSVP by email here. Partners, family members and friends who have helped MIRO are most welcome.
