Our spring BURDAN’S GATE BEACH CLEAN UP is scheduled for Sunday, November 15th, 9:00-12:00.
Everyone of all ages is welcome and encouraged to come along for any length of time – every little bit makes a difference. Bags and gloves provided. We’ll be set up at the usual spot just before Burdan’s Gate, at the start of the Pencarrow Road.
I’m pleased to say that since our April clean-up, Hutt City Council has installed bollards along the grassy picnic area where we congregate. This is intended to discourage drivers from parking on the grass and driving onto the beach. Hopefully Council will be installing similar bollards just south of this area to secure the rest of the beach.
I’m also pleased to announce that I’ve joined the Board of MIRO (Mainland Island Restoration Operation, https://miro.org.nz/ ), and that the twice-yearly beach cleans will now be ‘sponsored’ by this group. Although I’ll continue to organise them for the foreseeable future, it’s great to have the backing of a well-established and highly respected local organisation. 🙂
Thanks so much for your continuing support. Our shoreline would be in horrible condition if we weren’t doing this twice a year.
Ngā mihi, Sarah & MIRO
