Historical Society of Eastbourne – Picture Perfect

Many of you will remember our successful art exhibition, ‘Picture Perfect’, at the Hutt Art Centre in May last year. We always intended repeating it here in Eastbourne at some stage, and can now confirm that it will take place over the weekend of 14-15 November in the Muritai School Hall, as part of the Wellington Heritage Festival.
We’re delighted to have another opportunity to showcase our ‘century of paintings of the eastern bays’ and to tell the stories associated with them. In addition, we hope to display some of our large framed early photographs of the bays, which are historic items in their own right.
Special thanks to Muritai principal Stu Devenport for his support. We’ve agreed that the exhibition will stay in place on Monday 16th so that teachers can bring their classes to see it as part of their history learning.
Once our curators, Greg Chaston and Jill Marment, have checked out the hanging space available, there may be room for a few additional artworks. At last year’s exhibition, a number of you mentioned that you owned paintings of the bays and would be willing to lend them for future exhibitions. So we may be putting out the call closer to the event.
