    Matariki is the Māori name for the cluster of stars, that rises in midwinter and for many Māori, heralds the start of the new year. The return of the cluster is commemorated by Te Rā Aro ki Matariki 2024, which happens on Friday, June 28, this year. Early in the morning, just before dawn, is the optimum time to view the Matariki cluster. Easter baking day: Sunday 6 April at St Albans’ hall kitchen in Ngaio Street. Hot cross bun making  at 10.30 am for children aged 7-12:; Easter loaf making at 12 noon for teens and adults,.     Matariki is the Māori name for the Pleiades star cluster (also known as the "Seven Sisters"). Its reappearance in the mid-winter morning sky marks the beginning of the Māori New Year (Te Mātahi o te Tau). The celebration of Matariki is deeply rooted in the concept of connection to the land, the sea, and the heavens.
