    The Eastbourne community is invited to celebrate the launch of "Start Here: A Guide For The Overwhelmed" by Eastbourne local Dr Kerry Makin-Byrd. Published by Little, Brown UK, START HERE is an illustrated self-help guide for dealing with burnout featuring science-based solutions that will last a lifetime. START HERE features the illustrations of Katharine Hall and was designed by Catherine Adam of Wonderbird Design.     It’s that time of year again, so mark your calendar! Our next Eastbourne beach clean-up is scheduled for Sunday, November 23rd. We’ll be set up at the usual place - the picnic table just before Burdan’s Gate - from 9:00 until noon. All welcome, for any length of time. Even half an hour makes a big difference. Bags and gloves provided.

The garden tour proper will start at 1pm from St Alban’s church, with the supply of a map of gardens to visit and will end with hors d’oeuvre, wine and live music in the last garden at 5pm.     Everyone is welcome to the Community Board Meeting to be held in the East Harbour Women’s Club, 145 Muritai Road, Eastbourne, Lower Hutt on Tuesday 2 December 2025 commencing at 7:15 pm. A public forum is available 30 minutes before the meeting (6:45pm to 7:15pm) - this is not public comment (see below), but an opportunity for informal discussion. The public cannot ask questions during the actual meeting, other than during public comment. Our new Mayor Ken Laban and some HCC Councillors will also be present.     Huge community day with prizes, shared kai, and good vibes! Clean-ups will be happening right across Te Awa Kairangi ki Tai Lower Hutt from 10am until 12 noon. From midday on, we welcome everyone to join us at Petone Beach to celebrate your amazing mahi! Feel free to continue the clean-up efforts and enjoy the good vibes with beach games, music, ice creams, and kai. There are currently five clean-up sites to choose from, with something for everyone.     The Eastbourne Wharf-to-Wharf swim will be next held on Sunday 1st March 2026. The Wharf-to-Wharf swim has become an Eastbourne institution that has been running for over 100 years. This fun, non-competitive friendly swim event is run by the Muritai Yacht Club and volunteers for the benefit of the Eastbourne community.  The course begins on Days Bay beach and finishes next to the Rona Bay wharf in Eastbourne. Every person is a winner and at a distance of approximately 1.25km it is an event that all age groups can enjoy together.     ANZAC Day

    Anzac Day is usually commemorated by the Eastbourne Community at the war memorial adjacent to Muritai School, followed by refreshments at the Eastbourne Sports and Services Club. Assembly at Ballinger Gardens, Makaro Street from 9.30am – March to the Memorial Gates, Muritai School. ANZAC Service commences at 10am. Anzac Day is observed on 25 April. It commemorates New Zealanders killed in war and honours returned and serving servicemen and women.
