Professional Deer Culling Northern Forest East Harbour Regional Park: 5 May – 13 June

Greater Wellington Regional Council contracted, professional deer cullers will be hunting in East Harbour Regional Park, Northern Forest between 5th May & 13th June. Hunters will be only hunting when weather conditions are conducive to hunting. There will be 16 days of actual hunting in the period. No hunting will be undertaken on weekends, public holidays or school holidays. Hunting will on occasion be occurring at night. The EHRP website will be updated daily as the hunter communicates his plans to Jo or Zane at GWRC. Eastbourne-Bays Community Trust – Applications for Grants (close 15 June)

For the benefit of residents of the Eastbourne Community and in the exercise of the Trust Board’s discretionary powers charitable purposes shall include public recreation, enjoyment, health, education, instruction, and culture. Eastbourne-Bays Community Trust – Applications for Freemasons Scholarship (close 15 June)

The Eastbourne Freemasons’ Scholarship has been established to encourage tertiary or post graduate study in the successful applicant’s chosen area of expertise. Eligibility Applicants for the scholarship must have lived in the Eastbourne-Bays area for a minimum of five years (not necessarily currently) and achieved with distinction in their chosen discipline during a minimum of three years study at a tertiary level. Scholarship details The value of the annual scholarship is $5,500 and will be paid upon confirmation that the successful applicant is able to comply with the terms of the scholarship. Parangarahu Lakes Community Planting Day

Parangarahu Lakes Pencarrow Head, Lower Hutt, New Zealand

Join us for a day of planting at these nationally significant lakes. The Parangarahu Lakes are important to the surrounding environment and are home to native taonga. This includes a range of wetland plants, īnanga (galaxias maculatus), manu (birds), and our native freshwater mussel, the kākahi. Community Climate Action Fund (closes July 11)

COMMUNITY CLIMATE ACTION FUND (formerly the Community Engagement Fund) Criteria The fund aims to contribute to the city’s carbon reduction goals by funding: i. Community-led carbon reduction initiatives, with a focus on initiatives already identified in the Lower Hutt Climate Pathway ii. Community engagement initiatives that can demonstrate a contribution to carbon reduction in the way they are delivered (eg waste minimisation). To be eligible for funding: • Initiatives/activities must take place within Lower Hutt. • Physical assets must not be stored on Council reserve land or road reserve. • Any asset purchased over the value of $1,000 must be added to the organisation’s asset register.

Butterfly Creek Theatre Troupe AGM

The Annual General Meeting of the Troupe will be held on 2 July at 7:30pm in the Muritai School Green Room (entrance at the North end of the hall). A new constitution (to align with new rules for Incorporated Society) will be presented and voted upon. A copy of the Draft constitution can be downloaded HERE. We will also appoint officers for the Troupe. It should be a fairly short meeting and then we will have a chance for members to mingle – B.Y.O. drink and nibble.

The Nerd – Butterfly Creek Theatre Troupe

Our next production – The Nerd, by Larry Shue – is now cast and in rehearsal. The production will be in the Muritai School Hall at 7:30pm on July 10, 11, 12, 18, 19 and 20. Tickets are now available from Humanitix. Set in the mid-Western, mid-sized city of Terre Haute, Indiana, Willum’s architectural career is ticking along nicely. When he has a surprise phone call and hears that he will finally meet the man (Rick Steadman) who anonymously saved his life in Viet Nam, he is thrilled. His positive outlook quickly turns sour when he discovers that Rick is a hopeless nerd, devoid of any social and emotional intelligence.

Local Body Elections – including regional and city councils, and community board.

The Local Government Commission overruled the HCC council vote to disestablish the Eastbourne Community Board as of the next election. This means ECB will be part of the next election cycle.  Thank you Eastbourne for your support! Local body elections are your opportunity to elect your regional (GWRC) and city (Hutt City) councillors, and your community board members (ECB).
