Our next production – The Nerd, by Larry Shue – is now cast and in rehearsal. The production will be in the Muritai School Hall at 7:30pm on July 10, 11, 12, 18, 19 and 20. Tickets are now available from Humanitix. Set in the mid-Western, mid-sized city of Terre Haute, Indiana, Willum’s architectural career is ticking along nicely. When he has a surprise phone call and hears that he will finally meet the man (Rick Steadman) who anonymously saved his life in Viet Nam, he is thrilled. His positive outlook quickly turns sour when he discovers that Rick is a hopeless nerd, devoid of any social and emotional intelligence.

Eastbourne Community Board meeting at 7.15pm Tuesday 19 August,  at the East Harbour Women’s Club. Everyone is welcome. Agenda will be available closer to the date Or use the public speaking spot to talk for up to 3 minutes about any community matter. ECB members will be available from 6.45pm to discuss any issues or concerns before the meeting.

Local Body Elections – including regional and city councils, and community board.

The Local Government Commission overruled the HCC council vote to disestablish the Eastbourne Community Board as of the next election. This means ECB will be part of the next election cycle.  Thank you Eastbourne for your support! Local body elections are your opportunity to elect your regional (GWRC) and city (Hutt City) councillors, and your community board members (ECB).

ANZAC Day

Anzac Day is usually commemorated by the Eastbourne Community at the war memorial adjacent to Muritai School, followed by refreshments at the Eastbourne Sports and Services Club. Assembly at Ballinger Gardens, Makaro Street from 9.30am – March to the Memorial Gates, Muritai School. ANZAC Service commences at 10am. Anzac Day is observed on 25 April. It commemorates New Zealanders killed in war and honours returned and serving servicemen and women. Anzac Day dates 1916 – Anzac Day gazetted as a half-day holiday 1921 – Anzac Day becomes a full public holiday 1939 – Dawn ceremony widely included in New Zealand Anzac Day commemorations for the
