Māori Land Rates Remissions Policy review (HCC)

HCC are reviewing the Māori Land Rates Remissions Policy following the 2021 Local Government (Rating of Whenua Māori) Amendment Act. They propose broadening the scope of the policy, which furthers Council’s commitment to supporting whānau and regional development through whenua (land). This includes considering applications for remission of rates on general land collectively owned by Māori in the circumstances set out in the policy. This aligns with Greater Wellington Regional Council’s policy, a decision we made following consultation with Mana Whenua and kaitiaki of Māori freehold land and to ensure regional consistency.
