Coastal Restoration video series

The Historical Society of Eastbourne is hosting an exciting video presentation by artist Janet Andrews and photographer Simon Hoyle of Southlight Studio in Days Bay. Janet and Simon will present selected videos from their Coastal Restoration series, a two-year project funded by the Department of Conservation. Short and easy to understand - about how we can reduce hazards, and restore & protect our coast for the future. The presentation is at 2pm on Sunday 23rd April in the East Harbour Women’s Club, 145 Muritai Road, Eastbourne. Afternoon tea will be served afterwards. All welcome. HSE members free; non-members by gold coin donation.

Winding up a busy 12 months, the Historical Society's end-of-year event will be held on Sunday 3rd December, 2 pm at the East Harbour Women's Club rooms, 145 Muritai Road, Eastbourne. Our guest speaker is Bob Maysmor, who grew up in Eastbourne and whose career has included: Director of the Dowse Art Museum; Senior Curator at Pataka Art + Museum; and author of a number of books on art, history and biography. Bob will talk about growing up in Eastbourne. Afternoon tea to follow. All welcome; free to members, a gold coin donation for guests.

HSE talk – Rudi Mack “First Contacts : the early Pacific and European accounts of Abel Tasman’s 1642 Voyage”

The Society's next event for members is another author talking about another aspect of our history, and promises to be just as interesting and challenging. On Sunday 13 October at 2 pm at the East Harbour Women's Club Rooms in Muritai Road, local resident and bibliophile Rudi Mack will introduce us to his new book "First Contacts - the early Pacific and European accounts of Abel Tasman's 1642 Voyage".  Rudi takes a new approach, offering a different perspective than previous histories about the voyage. By cross-referencing textual and visual sources with each other, new interpretations of certain events during the voyage emerge. The results are
