    Book launch: Eastbourne: A Postcard Village, by Nik Zangouropoulos and Alison Carew: Sunday 16 November at 2pm, in the East Harbour Women’s Club rooms, 145 Muritai Road To recap: Nik is an avid and very knowledgeable postcard collector who specialises in cards of the Wellington region. He estimates he owns about 90% of the 370 known postcards of the eastern bays. Several years ago he gave a talk to our members on the subject, and mentioned that he’d like to do a book about Eastbourne postcards, so I offered to help with the local history content.   • HSE talk – Rudi Mack “First Contacts : the early Pacific and European accounts of Abel Tasman’s 1642 Voyage”

    The Society's next event for members is another author talking about another aspect of our history, and promises to be just as interesting and challenging. On Sunday 13 October at 2 pm at the East Harbour Women's Club Rooms in Muritai Road, local resident and bibliophile Rudi Mack will introduce us to his new book "First Contacts - the early Pacific and European accounts of Abel Tasman's 1642 Voyage".  Rudi takes a new approach, offering a different perspective than previous histories about the voyage. By cross-referencing textual and visual sources with each other, new interpretations of certain events during the voyage emerge. The results are
