Point Howard watermain update

Howard Road watermain renewal works
UPDATE: Thursday 11 January 2024
Happy New Year everyone. We wanted to confirm that Wellington Water with our partner Action Civil Ltd will start works renewing the water pipeline from the beginning of next week.
For the first day of work, Monday 15 January, there will be no road closure as the crew will be establishing the plant and equipment on site, locating services and setting up traffic management.
From Tuesday 16 January, the road will be closed to vehicles at 7:30am and reopened at 4:30pm every working day. Pedestrian access will remain open throughout. No work will be done on public holidays or weekends, so the road will remain open. The shuttle bus service will start again from Tuesday and parking arrangements will be available as they were for the slip remediation works.
We are expecting to complete this first stage of the works – as per the planned programme of works below – by the end of March. Please note that timings are weather dependent.
• Nikau Road to Ngaumatau Road – nine weeks. This first portion of work is the most difficult and will take the longest due to the narrowness of the road and the need to backfill every day.
• Ngaumatau Road to number 90 Howard Rd – three weeks.
• Reserve section – works to replace the pipe in the reserve area are still in the planning phase as consents are needed from the Regional Council to allow the works to progress; this will not involve any significant road closures or residential impacts.
• Howard Road below the upper intersection with Nikau Road (35 Nikau/59 Howard). Again, where the works require the road to be closed, we will continue providing the shuttle and parking arrangements.
Usual reminders during the works:
• Your postie is trying to deliver mail outside of the road closure times but, if this can’t be done, mail will be held at the Eastbourne Four Square.
• Send a ‘fob request’ form to savage.glenn@gmail.com if you want to use the parking area by the boat ramp in Seaview Marina.
• The shuttle is operating during pedestrian access times (7.30-9am, 12-12.30pm and 3-4.30pm) and will run from the marina carpark at the bottom of the hill up to the road closure on Howard Road.
Waste collection
• Residents can leave any kerb side collections at the wide area on Howard Road located uphill of the intersection of Howard Road and Nikau Road (the upper intersection at 35 Nikau / 59 Howard Rd) as shown below.
If residents want to bring their kerb side collections down during working hours this can be done on foot with escort through site from the STMS. After hours the road is open, so residents are free to drop off and pick up their wheely bins as required.
• The large recycling and rubbish bins will also be reinstated at the same location on Howard Road as during the remediation works.
• Trolley bins are located at 67/69 Howard Road if you need help getting heavy gear/shopping through the site during pedestrian access times (bins need to be returned to the same location after use).
