Following consultation with the Eastern Bays community earlier this year, from 1 October there will be a reduction in the speed limit along Marine Parade between Whiorau Lowry Bay and Sunshine Bay, from 70km/h to 50km/h. This will improve safety for all road users, including those walking and cycling, while maintaining a consistent speed limit along the Eastern Bays waterfront. The Butterfly Creek Picnic Area faces an issue with its historic beech trees. Due to foot traffic over many years, root damage has occurred resulting in a number of trees dying.Join East Harbour Ranger Jo Greenman ahead of the ECB meeting at 5:30 pm on October 31 for an informal chat to find out more and share your thoughts on how best to preserve the remaining trees and ensure Butterfly Creek remains a safe and ecologically vibrant destination for future generations. Winding up a busy 12 months, the Historical Society's end-of-year event will be held on Sunday 3rd December, 2 pm at the East Harbour Women's Club rooms, 145 Muritai Road, Eastbourne. Our guest speaker is Bob Maysmor, who grew up in Eastbourne and whose career has included: Director of the Dowse Art Museum; Senior Curator at Pataka Art + Museum; and author of a number of books on art, history and biography. Bob will talk about growing up in Eastbourne. Afternoon tea to follow. All welcome; free to members, a gold coin donation for guests.

Any surplus goes back into the organisation and promotion of further markets and donations to community projects as selected by the Market Committee. Kayak Safety Workshop in memory of Jack Skellett, 1998-2021 After the success of the first two workshops there will be another FREE kayak safety workshop held in Days Bay on Thursday 21st December 2023, open to all. This will be a comprehensive, 1 day event covering every aspect of water kayaking safety, with a strong focus on theory and building awareness, plus practical and skills development.
