While your dog may not attack a Penguin, just approaching a penguin while it is travelling between the sea and its nest, or sniffing around the nesting area can result in the penguin abandoning its nest. This training is designed to significantly decrease the likelihood that your dog would approach penguins or go near their nests. The Trainer Willy Marsh will be the trainer. Willy has extensive experience conducting Kiwi Dog Avoidance Training throughout New Zealand. He has also conducted Penguin Avoidance Training. Butterfly creek picnic area will be closed 18-20th September - Whilst tree felling at the Kowhai/ Mackenzie track junction is being undertaken park users should wait at the barrier to be guided through the work site. Water Restriction Level 1 Use sprinklers every second day If you live in an even numbered house, you can use sprinklers or irrigation systems on even numbered days between 6-8am and 7-9pm. If you live in an odd numbered house, the same rules apply for odd numbered days. This helps limit water evaporating in the heat of the day, spreads the load of daily water demand, and helps manage daily supply levels. You can use handheld watering devices any time, on any day, so long as you don’t leave them unattended. Water restriction Level 1 applies all year round for Upper Hutt and South Wairarapa.

The Society's next event for members is another author talking about another aspect of our history, and promises to be just as interesting and challenging. On Sunday 13 October at 2 pm at the East Harbour Women's Club Rooms in Muritai Road, local resident and bibliophile Rudi Mack will introduce us to his new book "First Contacts - the early Pacific and European accounts of Abel Tasman's 1642 Voyage". Rudi takes a new approach, offering a different perspective than previous histories about the voyage. Mistaken identities, evil adversaries, plot twists, and absurd excesses are in store for Butterfly Creek Theatre Troupe’s final production of the year, The Foreigner by Larry Shue. Rehearsals are now underway. Winner of two Obie Awards, two Outer Critic Circle Awards and named the Best New American Play and Best Off-Broadway Production of 1984, this modern farce remains a staple of regional and community theatre. Director Suzy Cain, (along with Assistant Director Nicola Tod) has assembled a fantastic cast and Cain is looking forward to working on the play again.
