1. Fund objectives
Our vision for the Te Ara Tupua Community Path Activation Fund (the Fund) is to encourage more people to explore their transport options for journeys between Wellington and the Hutt Valley. Te Ara Tupua will improve transport resilience and create a new, safe walking and cycling link between Wellington and the Hutt Valley.
The Fund is focused on community designed and delivered initiatives that contribute to increased use of the Ngā Ūranga ki Pito-One section of Te Ara Tupua in the first year of opening. An increase in active mode use on this corridor will help increase the awareness of and further normalise walking and cycling as viable, safe transport options for people travelling between Wellington and the Hutt Valley. The more people who use Te Ara Tupua for their regular journeys, the less strain and congestion on the road and rail.
We know that community organisations are best placed to identify opportunities relevant to them and to use their connections to make a positive impact. By supporting community groups that have the social networks and expertise to deliver active mode initiatives, we enable greater efficiencies and generate a wider reach for promoting Te Ara Tupua as an attractive option for active mode journeys between Wellington and Lower Hutt.
Priority areas
The Fund is available for community-led initiatives that help encourage use of the Ngā Ūranga ki Pito-One section of Te Ara Tupua by achieving one or more of the following priority areas through active modes, such was walking, running, or cycling.

2. Inclusive access: Improve access to social and economic opportunities for all people regardless of physical or mental abilities
3. Health: Increase physical, mental, and emotional health through active mode events
