Eastbourne Community Board to Continue for next triennium (3 years)

Local Government Commission’s determination on representation arrangements to apply for the October 2025 elections for Hutt City Council.

In summary the determination has agreed with Council’s decision to have five general wards; Mana Kairangi ki Tai Māori Ward (x1 Councillor); Western General Ward (x1 Councillor), Northern General Ward (x2 Councillors), Central General Ward (x2 Councillors); Harbour General Ward (x1 Councillor); and Wainuiomata General Ward (x1 Councillor) with a Mayor and x5 Councillors elected at large.

The ward boundaries are as per Council’s decision in its final proposal including the extension to Pencarrow of the Harbour Ward.

In terms of Community Boards, Eastbourne and Wainuiomata are retained for at least the next triennium. The Commission has upheld Council’s proposal to disestablish the Petone Community Board at the next election.

Eastbourne wouldn’t have achieved this result without terrific support from many residents and the Eastbourne Herald. The Eastbourne Community Board is delighted that Council’s decision has been overturned and the ECB will continue past the October 2025 local body elections. Many thanks to the residents who made written and oral submissions to Council and at the Local Government Commission hearing in December. This process has highlighted the importance of a local newspaper that takes an interest in local democracy. Thank you Louise Parry.
