The ECB, Mayor Campbell Barry, HCC CEO Jo Miller, and residents farewelled Virginia Horrocks as Chair of the Community Board last night. Ginny has been Chair for six of her nine years on the Board and is not standing again. She has made a significant impact on Eastbourne during her time on the Board. Among her many successes, she has helped ensure the Tupua Horo Nuku shared path project became a reality and has focused her energy and enthusiasm (and walked the talk) on climate change and the impact it will have on Eastbourne. About this plan change The Government passed a law in late 2021 requiring councils to change their planning rules to allow housing up to three storeys high and three homes per section in most residential areas, without requiring council planning permission (resource consent). Locally we have 9 candidates for the Eastbourne Community Board (5 positions)- congraulations to all who have put their names forward, it’s great to see democracy in action. Nominations for the local body elections close at noon on Friday 12th August. The Eastbourne Community Board has 5 members plus our ward (Eastbourne & Petone) city councillor. We meet about 6 times a year formally (public meeting) but informally much more often, plus board members work on their areas of interest as need arises.
