    Winding up a busy 12 months, the Historical Society's end-of-year event will be held on Sunday 3rd December, 2 pm at the East Harbour Women's Club rooms, 145 Muritai Road, Eastbourne. Our guest speaker is Bob Maysmor, who grew up in Eastbourne and whose career has included: Director of the Dowse Art Museum; Senior Curator at Pataka Art + Museum; and author of a number of books on art, history and biography. Bob will talk about growing up in Eastbourne. Afternoon tea to follow. All welcome; free to members, a gold coin donation for guests.

This meeting will adopt a collaborative approach with representatives from Wellington Water and Hutt City Council in attendance to discuss the short and long-term plans for odour management at the plant. Any surplus goes back into the organisation and promotion of further markets and donations to community projects as selected by the Market Committee. This will be a comprehensive, 1 day event covering every aspect of water kayaking safety, with a strong focus on theory and building awareness, plus practical and skills development.   • Welly Walks – Kowhai Street / Butterfly Creek Track

    On the last weekend of January, walk any of these six trails and discover hidden prizes. The Wellington region has a diverse network of trails to walk, run, and ride. There are hundreds to discover that lead to fabulous views, swimming holes, waterfalls, and picnic spots. Every day is a good day to go for a walk, but the incentive is even higher on 27 and 28 January. For one weekend only, treats have been hidden on six welly-walked trails in the region.     East by West Ferries cease Mātiu Somes service for 6-8 months

    Mātiu Somes Island

    East by West will not be operating services to Mātiu/Somes Island from 19th February 2024 for 6 – 8 months while the wharf is rebuilt. This means our weekday and weekend timetables will change from the 19th February as we will not be stopping at the island. We have not received a date for the island reopening but we will communicate this to everyone as soon as we’re able to. Services will still be running as usual right through to the 18th February so there’s still time to head out to the island over the next few weeks!   • CANCELLED: Eastbourne Community Board – Walk Around

    This event has been cancelled as were are not enough issues to warrant the effort and cost. Individual bays will be contacted and any issues raised will be dealt with individually. Thank you. ECB On Saturday 2 March, the Community Board will have its annual trip through Eastbourne and the Bays, visiting Resident Associations and residents. As usual, we plan to travel (by van) south from Point Howard, spending 20-30 minutes in each bay or area to discuss any issues residents would like to bring to our attention. These are generally broader issues or concerns not otherwise managed through the Council's Report a Problem service.A
