The weather is gate crashing our celebration! The weather isn’t looking too flash for Saturday – so the decision is to postpone the public informal part of the day until Sunday 19 April (next day). Same places, same time (10am-2pm), same fun – just hopefully better weather. The official proceedings (blessing and opening) will still go ahead from 6am at Whiorau Reserve on Saturday 18th April. Update: Meshtastic / CRISiS Lab meeting Thursday 26 March – Upstairs in the Eastbourne Hub/Library, 38 Rimu Street, Eastbourne, Lower Hutt  Migada Perera and Raj Prasanna from the CRISiSLab team  – based in the Joint Centre for Disaster Research (JCDR) at Massey University  will be there to describe the system, hand over devices, give guidance on how to use them, and answer any questions. On June 10th the theme of the Eastbourne Community Board meeting will be the Gollan’s farm purchase. Quentin Duthie (GWRC) is speaking about why the council bought the land, Dave Bamford will be speaking on why the trust for the estate of John Marsden Nankervis gave so generously to help the purchase, and Ben Bruno  (Harbour to Headlands) will be speaking on the support from the community and the ideas that have been put forward. Wellington’s regional council has placed the winning bid on more than 1000 hectares of land, featuring unique wetlands and bordering on existing regional park in Eastbourne. Proposal to disestablish community boards A Hutt City council independent representation review has recommended that community boards, including the Eastbourne Community Board, be disestablished. The Eastbourne Community Board believes that community boards provide an invaluable service to residents. More than 60% of car trips taken by New Zealanders are less than 5km, while more than 30% are under 2km*. 5km is the approximate distance from Point Howard to Eastbourne Village ( or Petone supermarkets). It’s not unreasonable to assume that about 50% of car trips in the bays are within the bays. Tetra Pak recycling trial – a bin is now available in the Eastbourne Library foyer (next to batteries) for Tetra Pak recycling. Please note that this trial can only continue while paks are properly opened, flattened, cleaned and dried (see below – if you’ve done this before you’ll know that rinsing is not enough). Any pak can be deposited, and you can leave the lid on.
