East by West will not be operating services to Mātiu/Somes Island from 19th February 2024 for 6 – 8 months while the wharf is rebuilt. This means our weekday and weekend timetables will change from the 19th February as we will not be stopping at the island. We have not received a date for the island reopening but we will communicate this to everyone as soon as we’re able to. The Eastbourne.nz website attempts to provide timely information on community services in one place. To do this it uses a number of methods which can explain the format in each case. Metlink (bus) information – this information is available in computer compatible format (API) from Metlink, so it’s possible to access specific bus cancellations as well as bus arrival times at each stop, in “real time”. We outlined a few trials in a survey that sought to provide more options to help getting to/from Days Bay wharf – , you can see a summary of survey results here. We have now opened applications for spaces in a few trials: Shuttle. Wildfinder are helping us get a shuttle trial off the ground starting next Monday 3 July. The shuttle will meet three sailings in the morning and three in the evening on weekdays, and the trial will run for two months. ECB in conjunction with HCC and Eastbourne Library are trialing an electronic noticeboard to provide an alternative information source for those who don’t use social networks. This trial is running in the window of the library and contains a series of screens with community information, including some information which will update automatically such as weather forecasts. In 2014 the Eastbourne Community Board conducted a survey of Eastbourne and the Bays to gauge the wellbeing and satisfaction of the residents and to identify issues of importance to the community.
